Not even just with elves, it was with a lot of races that are getting these customizations. Most of them have always had certain variations of darker skin tones, but the second they suddenly get explicitly black ones, now it's an issue.
I just don't understand the reactions to it. You have people claiming things like it's "lore breaking" but nothing in the lore even references skin tone. Except blood elves but nothing says they can't be dark skinned. It just says they lost their purple color.
They really dug their heels in about this but completely got over frostmourne and Arthas' frosty hat getting a brand new origin story out of nowhere after like a day.
I don't take much of an issue with Frostmourne and the Helm of Domination mainly because it finally explains why they just didn't fetch another one in the back and made a new Lich King.
funny how the reaction was ENTIRELY positive about brown orcs and then when we get brown elves suddenly it "doesn't make sense according to the lore"
Upsides is that it roots out all the people who were using blood elves as their Horde side race for being... "Superior"
I've said this a bunch of times and I hope it rings true with you. This is the test. Ask someone what they think about the new human skin tones and facial and hair styles. They give this answer- "Awesome. Outstanding. Should have been done years ago. We need to have an even 1/3
greater range of diversity options including the LGBTQ+ community." You then ask them about the new skin tone options for other races. They say "Ridiculous. Lore breaking. Makes no sense." They're not racist. They just aren't. The long explanation involves LotR, Orlando 2/3
Bloome, Terry Pratchette, DEATH, and anthropomorphic personification. Bottom line; there are racists involved in this debate. There are also a lot of people, probably most, by a large margin, who aren't. 3/3
