This is going to be another unpopular opinion shortly after the other one but: I think it's crappy to say, "Fuck the time skip I'm not doing it." when it affects the game entirely. Other people are going to abide by the lore and get confused when so-and-so isn't.
I think if you have a problem with the time skip yeah you can ignore it but you're going to limit yourself from the world around you. You can quite easily do your own storylines in writings, machinimas, and storylines taking place before the time skip.
And if you really-really-really-REALLY don't want anytihng to do with the time skip you can put your character in the Shadowlands or keep to your Guild's Lore since I know a lot of people already do that. Just know if you're a public RP person you're gonna hit some roadblocks.
To me I think it creates an amazing opportunity for story telling. Depends how it works - if 1 yr in Shadowlands = 5-10 yrs in Azeroth that could provide for some really compelling stories to be written. Void lords invaded, Anduin assassinated = no SW heir/chaos, you name it.
I'd hope Anduin wouldn't get assassinated off-screen or really at all. But I get what you mean at least.
