This is looking to be an Unpopular Opinion: I think a Time Skip in WoW isn't a bad thing. I think that the story is in great need of a jump after everything that's happened every year for Azeroth. Cities, villages, forests, lands can be healed. Unions can be born. Etc.

I Knew starwars knight of the old republic Knight of the fallen empire did that With whole carbonite 5 years... let see what happens if we take Heroes of the Horde and Alliance and Speed thing up 30-50 years later when "Thing have change over the years."
