I'm guilty of doing this early on in my career as an RPer and I corrected it by giving a lore reason why Ban'orak isn't a Chieftain anymore. But I just feel like it's more interesting to not be a royal. But you do you I guess.

People may or may not like this take but here goes. Roleplaying as a Prince, Chieftain, King, Royalty, etc is overdone and should honestly be avoided. I see way too often even outside of WoW where people are Princes and I just think that's kind of boring.

Agreed. I one rp'd with a guy who's toon was a prince who was actually one God or another with amnesia. I guess he figured all those ditches around town just dug themselves. Nothing wrong with being a commoner.

This happens a lot in Goblin RP too. You'll have some new character suddenly own half of Azeroth's gold mines/be a Mogul of -Insert Here- Cartel. Mostly because in Goblin RP, your backstory and standing from the get-go really influence your character.

I think Chieftains are a little easier to get pass since starting little clans and groups and being the leader of them is a lot easier then walking around claiming to be a King or Prince.

Chieftain is a much easier and believable but also should be avoided. Mainly because of two reasons. One because Thrall initially dissolved most of the clans and two usually if you're a Chieftain then you're a leader of a clan and for new players you're not likely to have many.

On the same topic of this. Being a General or Commander isn't bad either, however, I do think it's better to have a character not become one right away. There's a lot of enjoyment to be had with your character developing with his/her/their rank along with their story.

Hmm ! I understand your point... Yet, if done well (= rpers don't carry only a shiny title, but also they include the responsibilities, politics and complex relationships due to their rank), I am okay with this, provided they are not narrow-minded ! :)

None of my characters are high-ranked : In WoW, my warrior has the "highest position", as a veteran from many wars. He is old and respected, but he has no specific tittle. In the alternative Draenor, he was a blackrock blacksmith and never been a warrior, so completely anonymous.

Can we not just let people RP however they want? lol. I appreciate there might be certain things that are considered cliche but... for an individual person... they might have never RP'd as a Prince and now they're not allowed because everyone else has already done it?

Well yeah anybody can RP as they want. I'm just giving my take that Princes, Kings, Chieftains, etc should be avoided really. I think it's better to be something else than them or something like them.
