I believe that Sylvanas was corrupted the day she died at Silvermoon. Arthas tortured her, killed her then raised her as a Banshee. One day she's Ranger-General of her city. The next she's a monster. The Banshee queen has done thing the Ranger-general would never dream of doing.

The Banshee Queen still did a lot of good. Help the Blood Elves, care for the forsaken, help in the battles against Arthas. Just in the BFA developers tried to portray it as negatively as possible.

Sylvanas in Battle for Azeroth was a way more accurate portrayal of her in the position of Warchief than Legion was. Much as I enjoyed her in Legion that was her "Acting Nice" to gain the Horde's trust. Battle for Azeroth showed her true colors.

In" before the storm " and BFA Blizzard retconned one of the main features of Sylvanas - she always valued freedom above all. Both her and someone else's. Maybe they go back to this SL, with "i will set us all free". But for now, her character is heavily rewritten.

Sylvanas has been going down the path of the Lich King for a while. They actually brought it up in BfA that Sylvanas always valued freedom but she seemingly has ditched that for power. It's not so much a re-write but it's where she was going since Cataclysm.

Have you read the "traveller"?There is a character there - Reigol Valdread, the forsaken. He served Sylvanas and adored her,but then he got tired of fighting and asked her to let him go.And she easily agreed, because "she understood the call of freedom very well."Compare with BtS

Traveler takes place between Cataclysm and Mists of Pandaria if I remember correctly. Sylvanas after Mists of Pandaria and most importantly Legion is effectively a very different person. Especially after Before the Storm where her people are turning against her.

And what happened to her after "Mists of Pandaria"? Sylvanas, as she was always written, would have let her forsaken go if they had asked her to. It always gave you a choice-to serve or not.She is cruel and pragmatic, but freedom has always been her greatest value in the world.

What happened after Mists of Pandaria was her Sister bonded with her, exposed her heart to change & immediately forsook her. A lot of people forget about this part but that really crushed her. From that moment on she wouldn't allow even her forsaken to be exposed to that.

But, by the way, she still loved Vereesa. You can see it even in the comic book about the sisters. It was Vereesa's words that made her change her plans and let them go. Another discrepancy.

Sylvanas has consistently loved her sisters but the Forsaken are very on and off.
