I've actually wondered this myself, if the icy ones are indicative of Death magic. Alternatively, ice could be due to a lack of heat via void but... I like the idea of Death magic so much more for that.

Spoilers: There's plenty of ice sighted in the Maw currently and I going to guess we're going to meet the Forgemaster for our Legendaries in there too. The Helm of Domination were both locked in ice along with every Lich King. Definitely seems to be a connection here.

Maybe. But there are several ice planets then. ...Personally, I prefer the idea that the Shadowlands or the Jailer is involved.
