There's this weird thing about Sylvanas in BfA. Yes I don't like her character that much due to her role in this expansion. BUT it was something that was bound to happen with her character. It was never a matter of if it was always a matter of when she would forsake the Horde.

Kurt Vonnegut's Tralfamadorians see the world not as a series of isolated moments, but rather as a continuum. When the totality of her life is looked at in this way Sylvanas will never be more villain than victim. No longer a hero, but more worthy of our pity than our rage.

She's definitely lost her victim card privileges after Battle for Azeroth.

Her destiny was to die with honor defending her home. That destiny was stolen by Arthas who broke her so thoroughly so as to be unrecognizable. Holding the Ranger-General responsible for the actions of the Dark Lady is somewhat like telling a veteran with PTSD to 'get over it.'

It doesnt matter what her destiny is. None but Nozdormu and his kindred are privileged with the knowledge of their death. Pity Sylvannas, but following a dark path that already destroyed you is not something that keeps you a right to pity. Just as those dead NEs dont deserve pity

Penance is change and attonement. If she was consumed by her failure to save her people, she would not threaten them. If she wished to stop the suffering of the Forsaken, she would not manipulate more people into the existence of one.

That's the thing when I think about Sylvanas vs Saurfang. Saurfang committed horrible atrocities in his lifetime and he regrets it and -TRIES- to fix it. Sylvanas doesn't in after new life as a Banshee instead of regretting her actions she follows up by doing worse things.

... he turned her into a sociopath. It isn't possible to put those bits back in. Her filters were PERMANENTLY removed. She isn't DECIDING to go from one act of evil to another, her mind in INCAPABLE of self correcting. She can't turn back and it's Arthas' fault. 2/2

The Forsaken have proven otherwise that they are capable of these feelings again. Arthas created the monster but the monster is now without its chains. Sylvanas has even shown in the novels to want to rekindle these feelings but she backs down.

Arthas can be blamed for Sylvanas, maybe. But Arthas isn't here anymore and honestly, she's not been doing the bidding of anyone but herself. It's completely reasonable for people to blame Sylvanas for own her actions she's been doing since freed from Arthas' control.
