After seen the storyline of Xalatath and the fake image of the Scepter of the Tides, i think its time for the Artifacts to "rejoin" or follow new paths forward. I totally agree with you.

I mean one thing I really liked about Battle for Azeroth was they gave both Xal'atath and Titanstrike (via Hati) their own continued stories. Xal'atath is no longer bound to her dagger. And Hati is instead bound to the Hunter rather than Titanstrike.

//I can't really imagine that is truly an unpopular opinion Thrall really does need to be "Thrall" again and seeing as the Horde is finding itself once again, it is the perfect time for its founder to do the same.

I remember back during the one Cinematic where he finally returned with the pushing done by Varok when he was going to fish out his one weapon I remember a ton of reactors and even commenters say, "NO THRALL YOU BETTER NOT BE PULLING OUT DOOMHAMMER THAT'S MINE!"

If that's unpopular then I must be unpopular too. I absolutely did not agree with Doomhammer being all 'Oh it was REALLY destined for the players'. Cool in concept, but it didn't feel right. Thrall needs to get it back through a questline. If others can so can his!

We've established with Xalatath in BfA that the old artifacts CAN be passed on to other characters in lore so why not? I do like Thrall's big new axe though. Maybe we can trade :)

Exactly ! Playing a Paladin I was MAD that they gave me that. And more so than now that our character "threw it away" there's no wielder of ashbringer anymore ! Things that important lorewise shouldnt be given to the player because they lose all their meaning, and are forgotten.
