The Tauren really didn't have much lore going for them UNTIL Baine became their leader. Sure they care about peace and are one of the Horde races that pushes for it but Baine, aside from Theramore, did what he did for the Horde. So Tauren are still great in my book.
As for the Blood Elves in Warcraft 3 I liked them but then when World of Warcraft rolled around they became too popular for my own tastes. Once Lor'themar became a character in Mists I liked them again and him as a leader.
