The Elves had to travel to what is now called Eversong Forest all the way from Tirisfal Glades. They definitely know what winter is. Also, they had mages in Dalaran (aka Hillsbrad Foothills) therefore those that traveled there (THEIR PRINCE) also saw winter. The list goes on.

Not to mention that Lordaeron appareantly had quite harsh Winter seasons as well. Harsh enough to nearly kill Arthas.

The Sin'dorei are also people of knowledge they would most certainly know the basics of the seasons and that globally the world is different.

From Darnassus, actually. There is a questline in Winterspring showing how they traveled overland in Kalimdor before making it to Eversong. The lore also holds that before the Sunwell it was bitterly cold there.
