I just dont get why it gets a pass for awful gameplay even if you dont "play for gameplay" ?

I mean I play for the story not really the gameplay. Legion's gameplay was fun but that doesn't mean I am going to put it over Wrath for example. We all play WoW for different reasons so in my case I play it strictly for the story.
