It only brings me the question why they decided for him to retire in the first place as much as to what was the purpose to cut all of his hair only to grow back and even keep the same style he had before ( there some difference but still same)
Blizzard puts Thrall in retirement and people want him back. Blizzard brings Thrall back and people scream. It happens every time. Probably to give the player the Doomhammer and that's mainly it. Granted the Thrall retiring story is somewhat interesting - it does make things difficult in some areas.
