I see them being also the means to help out Mekkatorque and his own situation. Rather than it being another, "Help this allied race join us by doing ____." It would instead them helping their Gnomish Cousins out with saving their King.

The whole thing about the Rustbolt Resistance is they are VERY firm on the belief that the person getting the mechanization needs to give consent. Plus they don't want to make themselves 100% mechanical as they don't want to lose themselves in the process. So don't fret.
