Rexxar has gone through only three models in his lifetime but he instantly got a new and unique model in The Burning Crusade an expansion right after classic. All things considered, it was actually something they did rarely back then for even racial leaders. (1/3)pic.twitter.com/aIIGXygMBh

This model worked really well until Warlords of Draenor where everybody at this point ditched their classic models for the new HD models. TBC-Legion, (11 years and 5 expansions) we had very little Rexxar and no update. Then BfA swooped him and gave us a very unique model. (2/3)pic.twitter.com/zQtgtBsfhE

It took us 11 years to get to this point but Rexxar's final model in my eyes is my favorite (until Reforged). It shows off his half-ogre heritage while also sticking to previous designs of his character. Now we just need Misha to get her own model! Rexxar fanboyism over. (3/3)pic.twitter.com/t6hjH9wcSl

I wonder why they waited until the pre-patch for BfA to finally give us the model?

They were probably working on the model and thought it was a good time to release it along with the other new models in Battle for Azeroth. Such as Nathanos and Baine.
