The single questline Jaina was in, involved her "gaining a power up" and using power she already had. Then she just fucking vanished.
I mean Jaina was always a powerful mage we just didn't get to see that power that much. Especially given her past nature of being more, "ask questions first, fight later". They've definitely used Jaina more since 8.1 and are continuing that trend in 8.2.
