Mists of Pandaria deconstructed the faction war & showed why a faction war storyline is stupid.
It was then proceeded by Legion (with a faction war zone) and BfA, which was entirely about a faction war.
Its like they forgot their own point they made in MoP

To be fair... that's kinda like the real world. I'm not suggesting Blizz is trying to make some kind of statement. But I can think of plenty examples of people not learning from history and just repeating the same mistakes.
It has a lot to do with Leadership too unfortunately. Were Varian/Vol'jin still alive Sylvanas wouldn't be able to get away with any of this. Anduin's still learning and also is yearning for peace. Sylvanas is destructive and wants war for her ranks to grow.

I'm not talking about in-universe excuses they drum up to try and pretend rehashing the same storyline is okay. I'm talking about the out of game narrative choices by developers to dredge up this stupid plotline over and over and over again ad naseum.
