I'm fully on board with @Skoll_Shorties' opinion that Thrall should use the Doomstone to reimpower the Doomhammer since it's now been drained due to the events of the Legion epilogue.
Great way to wrap up that secondary plot line, including Magatha.

Apart of the reason why some Artifact Weapons work with the player is because they're first introduced to the player as artifact weapons. Xala'tath and Titanstrike being prime examples of weapons we never heard of before and feel right for us to have. (1/2)
But then you have weapons like Doomhammer, Ashbringer or Frostmourne who are super big Lore Weapons wielded by majorly iconic lore characters. It feels wrong but awesome to wield those weapons but we know we'd have to give them back eventually. (2/2)
