Not smart enough for this job, but please consider making arena/region allocation work through Rust’s ownership system. Both Apache and nginx use it, mapping requests to regions. Seems like a clear win for network servers but would also make graph data structures easier in Rust.

Counterpoint: maybe lifetimes are just a kind of granular arena allocation, perhaps with somewhat greater opportunity for fragmentation.
