And then interject the subject of the story in their own words. The two part narration keeps the listener engaged while the pacing pulls them to sleep and keen on hearing the next 30 second clip.
Listening to NPR is a master class in branded tone. They tell stories in such a campy campfire way with their soft voices and “but wait there’s more pauses”

It’s actually quite genius. And then they introduce a new story. On and on it goes. They take obscure stories and link via a common subject. After you’re hooked for a while, they can pump anything into the narration.

Which is why NPR listeners are so smug. It starts with an innocent story “how dog owners have better lives, IQ, and well being” to two minutes later “IQ is indicative of conscientious” to “liberals are more conscientious” to “conservatives tend to work in harsher industries”

It’s a genius instance of pacing and looping. Lull people to sleep and reinforce their self sorting while indulging their perceived intelligent via edumatainment.
