That's the traditional dev path for games. "Pre-Alpha" exists in some software development, but I only see it referenced in games when it supports marketing. Just some info for ya'll during the #E32021 goodness.

Prototype occurs during pre-production. Becomes the playable blueprint for full production. You use that time to test design theories.
