Gotta give credit where it's due: EA's non-sports portfolio is among the best of any 3rd party publisher right now. Huge turnaround for a business that had just years prior all but walked away from these sorts of games.
Can't remember smiling as much in an opening level as I have in Hi-Fi Rush. Just head-bops and grins and eyes-wide joy front the jump. Imagine working on this for 4 years and keeping it a secret the ENTIRE time. How the fuck do you do that?
I know many don’t agree but I think Part I’s narrative was so water tight. Plot, characters, themes, arcs, all of it ready made for TV/film. Part II had some powerful themes and moments, but is so much messier in every regard. Gonna be fascinating to see what HBO do to this story
After earlier blaming the 9 month delay on a trademark dispute, Fnatastic now admit that they had earlier planned to delay the game.
They liken themselves to 90s action heroes (or something?) and say that the game is definitely real, but do not provide an update on gameplay.
“We feel like that simple guy from 90s action movies. You probably remember him as the hero who breaks through the veil of disbelief when no one believes in him, but he finds the inner strength to win and prove to everyone what he is worth in the end.”

Had planned to do a Dead Space review on embargo, but sadly I’ve been absolutely wrecked by a mystery virus this week. Long story short: this absolutely rules. It’s one of the best remakes ever and I strongly recommend it.
The Day Before’s lead discord mod, who earlier announced the upcoming gameplay reveal, has said they now wonder if the game is real. They also confirm that the mod team have not seen any gameplay.
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome back. That was the biggest day one viewership for This Week in Videogames yet, and the biggest single day jump in subscribers (plus we hit the trending tab). Glad to be back at it and always appreciate you tuning in:
After earlier claiming the Steam de-listing was a bug, Fntastic now say that it was a copyright claim as they had not secured the trademark for 'The Day Before'. Despite only having received notice of this 6 days ago, the game has now been delayed by an additional 9 months. twitter.com/FntasticHQ/sta…

The Day Before has just been delisted from Steam. The developers claim it is a bug relating to Steam maintenance, but it appears as though maintenance has concluded and the title is still nowhere to be seen. No reports of this 'bug' affecting other titles at this point, either.
I still think it’s time for another studio to have a crack at a mainline Halo game. Similar to Guerrilla, it would be nice to see 343 talent allowed to make something new as it could lead to their ‘Horizon moment’. But I think Halo needs a new set of hands at this point.
The link is broken atm, but it’s official: Marvel’s Avengers is done. Servers will stay online for foreseeable future but no more updates. Every cosmetic will be given away for free (no refunds for those who already paid).
Have now heard from (or about) 7 major outlets/reviewers who did not get review code for this. As always, no outlet is entitled to code but this ‘limited code’ is a huge red flag. I also haven’t heard of any outlet having access to PC code yet (but can’t confirm this).
It looks like VGC sadly won't be publishing a Forspoken review on Monday, since Square Enix has decided not to supply us with code. That's an extremely rare occurrence for us, so read into it how you like.
Replaying Dead Space in preparation for the remake and it's absurd how well this game holds up 14 years later. Motive have a very big task on their hands, trying to top this.
I’m aware that select media have Forspoken review code. I didn’t make the cut so will not be able to provide an embargo review. Not sure when I’ll have time for it now since Dead Space is my focus next week. Sorry all.
These specs are…something. I’ve requested a PC review code from Square but nothing’s come through yet. Will try to get a review out on embargo but depends on if/when code arrives. twitter.com/Forspoken/stat…

Not sure of the scale of exits at 343 but it’s obviously pretty large and pretty senior. I wonder if this presages a shift in the future of Halo. Will 343 be relegated to maintenance of existing Halo services, with another studio taking the franchise forward?
Microsoft is laying off 10,000 people today, including in its gaming divisions such as Xbox and Bethesda. This mass layoff arrives exactly one year after Microsoft announced plans to purchase Activision Blizzard for $69 billion

I wasn’t much aware of what was going on with the D&D drama and why people were so upset but this one line from their press release got me fully caught up.
Fuck this. Ubisoft's problems are entirely self-inflicted by upper management alone. They have thousands of talented employees and squander that by forcing them to chase trends and run franchises into the ground. The answer isn't 'workers work harder' - it's new leadership.
After a terrible 2022, Ubisoft's Yves Guillemot tells staff the next year is crucial, telling them in an email that "the ball is in your court" to deliver ontime/onbudget.
"Today more than ever, I need your full energy and commitment to ensure we get back on the path to success"
Just watched episode one. That was exceptional. Totally true to the game without feeling redundant, whilst also adding new things that feel authentic to the characters and world. Such a fine balance to strike and they are absolutely nailing it.
PREVIEW // Fire Emblem Engage
"It’s clear to me that I am enjoying Fire Emblem Engage, and I am looking forward to spending more time with it, but I’m enjoying it less than Three Houses"
