Do you feel that parents should have the option to choose circumcision for their son at birth? Please leave your reasons why or why not!

Although health and hygiene is important, there are still enormous downsides to MGM. Cutting of nerves is a major problem. The NHS will actively try to dissuade parents from carrying out unnecessary circumcisions due to this and other complications
-
I just think if you aren't going to circumcise your child that's fine, but please learn how to take care of your child. That's my only thing. The problem is a lot of people are ignorant on hygiene, at least in my area. It's terrible.
-
I’m in total agreement with you there
-
I think it's a religious thing. Where I come from even saying "pregnant" Is taboo, talking about how to care for genitals and other sex education is EXTREMELY taboo.
-
I think I would be in a lot of trouble if I visited where you are, I may even need bail money!
-
Lmao!
I'll bail you if I ain't broke -
Circumcision is genital mutilation and needs to be BANNED.

Thanks for all the info guys. As I said, sex education is GREATLY lacking where I'm from. So it's good to learn these things. I need to make a habit of doing better research on these things.
-
I think the biggest reason there is so much misinformation about this, especially in the Bible Belt, is because people don't want to admit that what "God commanded" Is actually a very harmful practice
-
Exactly right.

Happened to my brother. My mother was raised with mostly females and didn't know about penis care 'cause that's not exactly something my conservative Southern Baptist grandfather would've brought up to a daughter.
-
Exactly! It's a huge problem in religious areas! People don't know how to take care of it because they're not allowed to talk about it. I wasn't even allowed to say the word "pregnant" And I definitely didn't learn how to care for genitals.

There is no downside in cutting of body parts of babies? In mulitating a baby's genital? The foreskin contains more nerve cells than your fingers and these are permanently destroyed and leaves the baby in pain for weeks. Honestly why are people so fucking disgusting
-
From what I have been told, baby boys have a penile nerve block. But because of these comments I did some research and discovered that although that is true, it does not block all the pain of circumcision.

Intact don't retract. Wipe from base to tip. That baby most likely got an infection because of improper care. The foreskin is like the labia, no need to pull it back/spread it to clean inside. Doctors give this info because of ignorance or greed, using it as an excuse 2 cut.
-
When it separates though, which is different for every child but usually from age 2-5, it does need to be gently cleaned under, just as the lips of the vagina. But it is easy, just rinse with warm water.
-
Yeah you're right, I ran out of characters but I was talking about before the natural separation, but full separation might not happen until or a little after puberty. Of course then there are creams and stretches to treat true phimosis.pic.twitter.com/yg6rsNlUY7

There's a very small chance that something will go wrong. There's a famous case of twins where one lost most of his penis and was transitioned to a female. It's a very sad story. That and the mohels who gave babies diseases with their mouths that Dawkins mentioned.
-
And both of the Reimer brothers committed suicide BECAUSE of circumcision and what was done to them. God rest their souls.
