CW COVID-19 I think even the most pessimistic views by scientists involve _some_ level of immunity after infection, because your immune system fought off the virus. You might be able to get it again, and therefore spread it, but it'll most likely be less severe the second time

CW COVID-19 And yeah, maybe even the vaccine won't be 100% effective, but at a societal level it's a lot easier to contain a virus like this if we can slash the infection rate by even half what it is currently

CW COVID-19 So like... I get the desire people have to panic. I've said it before and I'll say it again: catastophising can be very satisfying. And the engagement you get off a tweet that lets other people catastophise is probably even more satisfying. But it won't help anyone.

[CW COVID-19] There are legitimate reasons to be afraid here. A lot of them. But inventing more won't help.

Is there even any confirmed reliable source on this "no immunity" crap? From what I've seen from science publications there's two strands of the virus and the testing kits aren't reliable at determining if you have immunity. And news media is, reporting it badly.
-
So the WHO cautioned that it may not provoke 100% infallible immunity after infection, so antibody tests aren't a way of accurately telling who can and can't be infected, and of course the media ran with it as YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM CANNOT SAVE YOU! FLEE! FLEE FOR YOUR LIVES!

No, they’re TRYING to get clicks.

A very good point, it's about engagement isn't it

Yeah, people are interpreting the who saying "No evidence of immunity (because there hasn't been enough time to figure out if that's the case yet)" as "Evidence of no immunity".

Anyone talking about how you can catch COVID twice or whatever is bending over and talking entirely out of their arse at worst, and taking scientific data completely out of the context it was studying at best.
-
So the thing is, I can believe it doesn't provoke 100% immunity - like three months down the line you could get a bit of a sniffle and be carrying the damn thing for a few days, but the idea that it'll get a second crack at killing you is pretty far fetched
