When I first moved to CA seven years ago, people here were already indoctrinated that this is the new normal. “There’s always fires when the Santa Ana winds blow,” I was told. “But there has to be an ignition point,” I’d say. “Wind doesn’t start a fire. It only moves fire.”

I don't understand how, after cutting the power supply in advance to prevent the fires, the fires still started.

I have to wonder if Dutchsinse is right in reporting that so many of these fires have been preceded by seismic activity, as reported by the USGS. Once is an incident, twice can be a coincidence, but dozens of such small quakes>fires near drilling platforms suggests a pattern.
