Just so I understand you, the buildings in the picture are actually on the right hand side of Whitehall looking down from Trafalgar Sq?
On the left. You can just see Banqueting House. They appear on the right in the original due to reversal which is integral to the Daguerreotype process.
That is the statue of Charles 1 staring down Whitehall behind it a plaque marking the centre of London.Following the King's execution the statue was sold to a brazier ,John Rivett, to be melted down but he buried it instead.Following the Restoration the statue was sold back
Because people thought that Rivett had melted down the statue he made a considerable amount of money selling souvenirs to Royalists that was supposedly made from the metal of the statue
