Nintendo board meeting: "Sir they're buying it!" "Good!" "They're buying a LOT of it!" *face turns grim* "...shut it down"

Doesn't it feel like they were just prodding the market?
-
Seems to intent was a one time gimmick and they were unprepared and unwilling to continue production sorta like GC controllers for Wii u
-
They must be allergic to money and success

I think they cancelled it because of their soon-to-be announcement of Virtual Console coming to Switch, which will do the exact thing & more

Reminds me of this one comic strip about good TV shows that were too good to last. "Good. ...Cancel it."

And this is why I don't trust Nintendo, as much as I like them their decisions baffle me
-
They could have easily restocked and kept up with the demand but instead decided to just go with the worst possible route.
-
They are also aware people found a way to easily just copy games onto it for free. With Switch VC coming, people would spend just the $60.

People have been having the same debate about this as they had about amiibos, if Ninty was creating some intentional scarcity. I hafta laugh
-
So turns out Ninty is just stupid. It wasnt a planned scarcity. They werent prepared and now look at a potential profit source and go 'nah'
-
sometimes I wonder if it wouldnt benefit them going the way of Sega. They CAN make good games, but they SUCK at business decisions.
