They could have easily restocked and kept up with the demand but instead decided to just go with the worst possible route.

They are also aware people found a way to easily just copy games onto it for free. With Switch VC coming, people would spend just the $60.

sometimes I wonder if it wouldnt benefit them going the way of Sega. They CAN make good games, but they SUCK at business decisions.
