    No. It’s because the supposedly independent ‘propriety’ (standards) function in Whitehall about any minister’s unacceptable conduct has been rendered dysfunctional. She is a good person who had been overridden and wrongly belittled. This will and should not go away.

    All true. But sadly, and historically, it is to the long-term detriment of the UK.

    In 2015, eurosceptics were a minority in parliament, Brexiteers an even smaller rump. In 5yrs they won a referendum, blocked soft Brexit, toppled a government, took over the Tory party, won a majority and negotiated a very hard Brexit (after paying an Ulster price). They won.

    Douglas Murray should be followed and supported by all sensible people as one of the most cogent exponents of clear argument against the infection of corrosive and poisonous opinion which is so undermining decency in our national life and identity.

    Cambridge University’s resident race-baiter is back! This time to tell us that all right-wingers ‘are fascists’. Another golden insight. As I say in this morning’s Telegraph, why should anyone get into debt to attend a university that hosts such an obscure, malevolent clown?

    Sir Alan, I was disappointed to see that you didn't sign the letter against Israel's proposed annexation of the WB by over a 1000 European parliamentarians. Why didn't you?

    Simply so we know (no judgement on my part) please explain in what respect they are 'in China's pocket'.

    Coronavirus pandemic required global response. But WHO widely distrusted as in China’s pocket and UN riven with dissension and self-doubt. So countries have gone their own way. Amazingly, UN Security Council will discuss the pandemic for 1st time today.

    I texted the PM earlier today to plead with him to 'hang on in there' and retain overall command. We need his force of character at the top to lead us through, and out of, this national crisis. Boris - your country needs you. We pray you will recover rapidly.

    I am very worried indeed to hear that our Prime Minister has been laid low by this wicked virus. The whole Country will wish him a full recovery

    Let's all go along with what the PM and the experts alongside him say.... without any carping or criticism. Boris is doing a good job in the national interest, and we will all benefit from sticking together through these difficult weeks.

    This is very sad news. Andy was an exceptional Editor. He was mild-mannered and thoughtful and cared deeply about the local community. I admired him immensely, and enjoyed working with him. He was a lovely guy. My deep sympathy to Maria and their children.

    Tributes have been paid to former Melton Times editor Andy Plaice who has passed away aged 54. Our sincere condolences to his wife Maria, his children and the rest of Andy's family. This is our tribute to his life:

    Dead right. Our streetscape is becoming ever more blighted. The Dept of Transport set standards in their manuals but then resist any responsibility for enforcing them. So nobody does. Just look at the A4 out to Heathrow. Ugh!!!
