I am not saying that you shouldn't share your ideas. Sharing is a wonderful way to get perspective and feedback on ideas, but be mindful of who you share them with and at what stage.

@arvidkahl and I spend a lot of time talking about how we communicate to foster each other's creativity. I have learned to be clear about the kind of feedback I am looking for.Pokaż ten wątekDziękujemy. Twitter skorzysta z tych informacji, aby Twoja oś czasu bardziej Ci odpowiadała. CofnijCofnij

Totally in agreement. Beating down an idea is cruel

I completely agree. If anyone is looking for someone that will just vibe with them on their idea and think through the different avenues it could go down I am more than down. It’s what I love to do, I’m good at it, and I’m trustworthy and want the best for people that work hard.

providing thoughtful feedback is hard. One thing I’ve been trying to do more when soliciting feedback is understand why I’m asking a specific person and then framing their feedback. I don’t leave it open ended, I have a specific ask for input that is relevant to them.Dziękujemy. Twitter skorzysta z tych informacji, aby Twoja oś czasu bardziej Ci odpowiadała. CofnijCofnij

I am my worst enemy. I’ll criticise my own ideas and side projects which I’ve just begun and just shut them down before anyone else even hears about them. Not even trying to properly validate the ideas within the market or at least within my peers...

Interesting! I wonder if the exercise of defending your ideas would help strengthen them from the beginning and carry them to the next stage of creativity. So essentially the opposite of my approach

I used to feel this way about harsh criticism. But now I welcome it and let it foster discussion. If my idea is met with “that’s a terrible idea” I usually just ask “why do you think it’s terrible? tell me more”. It’s easier when we detach our value and from our ideas

-
If the critic responds with “I don’t know it just seems bad” without any substantial thought or consideration, then I know I can dismiss their criticism as baseless and move on to my next source of feedback.
