People stopped having fun. People stopped racing as a hobby. SRL was archaic and not user friendly so it was extremely offputting to new users. Top advocators and users such as Narcissa and Siglemic (and many more) stopped being a relevant presence.

It isn't accurate to say that less and less people are speedrunning. The hobby is more popular than ever, they're just not using SRL.
