Honestly since Nintendo is never gonna give us the light of day we should just increase singles entry for majors to 20$ instead of 10$ effectively doubling the pot and players would be better off financially to continue competing. Would be better for the community overall imo.

Adding an optional [$10] through some other incentive is much more likely to work.. assuming that the same amount (or at least, a comparable amount) of people will enter at double the price is kinda... yeah

If you're traveling to enter you don't care about the entry fee unless you're a psychopath. The entrants amount is not going to change

Definitely true, but it would also undoubtedly impact local amateur attendance

Which I imagine is a decent % ...then this is also 10 less dollars in your budget that might have been spent on merchandise which goes to the pool anyway, helps players fly out, or maybe the extra $10 every tourney means you’re not gonna subbed to mang0 and leff on twitch anymore

My point is it’s not nearly black and white as the original tweet makes it out to be — smash players aren’t exactly rational so you can’t strictly apply the laws of supply and demand to them with entry prices but in the end the extra $10 comes from somewhere

Yeah you're probably right, plus I hadn't considered local attendance for people who aren't typically competitors.
