its funny how 'having a sense of humor' no longer means 'being able to sense humor' and now just means 'appreciating all humor indiscriminately' like when did your opinion of the humor suddenly come into play

like i always thought 'having a sense of humor' means you can tell when someone is making a joke (since thats what the word sense means), but people use it like 'having a sense of humor' means you will laugh off any joke even if its not funny to you.

like if someone makes a rape joke, i can tell theyre trying to make a joke, and that they find it funny, but if i say something like 'hey man thats not cool' then theyre like 'oh come on, have a sense of humor' and im like, 'i can sense it was humor, i just didnt like the joke'
