      i will also say that i was aware this was a thing but even i wasn't aware of how specific it was and how complicit twitch and youtube were until very recently.

      a couple months ago, i started watching @SimpleFlips videos on youtube and IMMEDIATELY, i started getting ads from PragerU, a ridiculously right-wing organization that spends millions of dollars turning people reactionary.

      I don't think SimpleFlips is a reactionary. Aside from some running jokes about gayness that are a little uncomfortable but ultimately I don't think positioning gayness as the punchline, I don't see any connection between his stuff and PragerU's shit

      But those ads still show up on every one of his videos. And now they show up on everyone's videos for me. Once a day, Stephen Crowder pops up on my screen to tell me about how socialism is threatening the fabric of our society.

      It's not an accident and it's also not as widely obvious as it seems to us. The problem actually needs this kind of attention, and while NPR's coverage is CERTAINLY not free from criticism, I'm not sure what going "DOY OBVIOUSLY" accomplishes other than scoring internet points

          I know it has nothing to do with your content. It has to do with where the advertisers choose to direct their advertisement (in this case, to games youtubers)

          YouTube doesn’t ask youtubers whose ads they want shown on their videos, but they do ask advertisers what genres of videos they want to advertise on.
