    Digital snake oil lives. Why do people find it so hard to talk about evidence when it comes to apps? Look at this paper. One of the worst I've ever seen. It is written as if it summarises evidence of effectiveness, in fact it just lists vendor claims!

    It’s motivated for different reasons, but this reminds me of “A captain has 10 goats and 20 cows on his boat, how old is he?” type questions in Maths. It gets kids thinking in a way that’s not usually emphasized in school.

    If you take ten minutes at the beginning of the lesson to ask your students what sort of boots the wind is wearing this morning and what coat she has on, then no one's GCSEs will be harmed and poems will probably occur. Helen was 14.

    My point is that they’re comparing apples to oranges. They both serve different roles. As for Python, well, that’s kind of the easiest fit for most companies, I would guess. Doesn’t surprise me that it’s more sought after.

    It’s a fun little analysis but it’s not all that meaningful. SQL is primarily for database management whereas R is mainly for analytics. SQL would be much more useful to data engineers than data scientists, a distinction that didn’t really exist in 2014.

    What pays most: R, Python, or SQL?

    Nice article. In regards to the idea that AI can help with fake news is a tough problem. The actual technology is very doable (topic models are one way, graph theory is another) but to train these models you need to know the ground truth and that’s where difficulties lie.
