How to pervert democracy Brexit-style: a) Hold a vote without defining what is being voted for; b) Define what it means after the event; c) Refuse to allow voters a chance to agree/disagree with your definition. Brexit is the real affront to democracy. #PeoplesVote

It was defined as “Leave the European Union”. Not a particularly difficult concept to grasp. Anything else is an affront to democracy, as you put it.

Given that there is still fratricidal disagreement even amongst Brexiters as to what Brexit should look like, the idea that there was a clear prospectus put to the electorate at the time of the referendum is an absurdity. Brexit is an affront to democracy without a 2nd vote.

There may be disagreements over the method of exit, but the question was clear, concise, and answered by the electorate. How we leave is a matter for politicians to decide, which given that many argued the ref was too complicated for the layman, is entirely justified.

The question was anything but clear. "Leave the EU" means an infinite number of possible things. As events have proved. The question was misguided in the absence of a clear, official, unarguable definition. It is wholly undemocratic to try to define if after the vote.

The question was clear. The method of leaving was not, but this was never for the public to decide. That is the job of our politicians.

The question was not clear. Mrs May claims that "the people chose to end FoM", for instance. She can only claim that because she knows the question was not clear and she can make it mean whatever she chooses.

Those politicians who advocated brexit still can’t agree what it means and are still on the first stages of learning / denial on what the consequences would be.

Indeed. There cannot possibly be any argument that Brexit was hopelessly undefined in advance of the vote, otherwise we wouldn't still have 1001 competing versions in addition to May's hated WA deal.

You can apply to that to any general election too. It’s how it works. Ironically, you’d prefer the country to be run by unelected bureaucrats - which makes trying to argue about ‘perverted democracy ‘ a tad silly.

You made a patently ridiculous claim about the country being "run by unelected bureaucrats". Unless you meant the UK's Civil Service, you were talking though your hat and well you know it. So why should I engage seriously with you?

The entire WORLD is run by 'unelected bureaucrats', ffs. Every time someone bangs on about them you have to ask: what do you think the Civil Service is? It's a trite phrase repeated so often by the Brexit media that people now just repeat it without thought.

Yes, of course it was corrupt as hell, but the Brexit Gang will simply tell you that "Remain lied too" and shut down the discussion. Which is why we can't rely on that line of attack too much.

Absolutely. Not just cheated but broke the law. Where's the public inquiry while Brexit is put on hold? But as we have seen that argument has nothing like the traction that it should have and the "Remain lied" get-out clause is all too glibly trotted out every time.
