1/ Every ideology solves its genesis-era motivating social problems relatively quickly. Then gains slow until it comes up against its impossible problems. That’s when things get interesting.

2/ These are existential threat problems that require giving up a core assumption to solve. One whose removal would be fatal to the ideology. So you have to choose: solve the problem or save the ideology?

3/ What are core Imposdible Problem/Unbreakable Assumption (IP/UA) pairs for the following major ideologies: conservatism, socialism, progressivism, classical liberalism, libertarianism? I have guesses for all but curious what people come up with.

Libertarianism. UA: collective (eg state /community) power should never be used to restrain the individual’s freedom of action. IP: lack of community constraints frees some individuals to coerce and enslave other individuals.
