COVID-19 hot takes thread, here we go... 1/ scaling up testing right now is the wrong move. We have community spread literally everywhere. Testing just gets people congregating more. The right thing to do now is social distancing. Protecting health workers. Not counting cases.

Disagree with much of this. Rapid testing has numerous benefits and was effectively used by China, at scale too. Testing lowers anxiety and creates clear incentives for isolation compliance for those who test positive. Reduces FLHW days away from work. Helps etiology studies. Etc

That's fair. Do you think quarantine won't taken as seriously without it, basically?

Ya I have, good thread. It's my main worry right now -- knock on effects of not quarantining asap One could probably make the argument that aerosol protection, and extreme outdoor sanitization, we're seeing in Asia is overkill. Droplet is fine

Droplet protection + hydration for healthcare workers is probably better than burning through N95s, running out of supplies, and being dehydrated

Agree. Social distancing is necessary in outbreak areas starting now. Testing at scale is supportive of compliance and outbreak tracking at the aggregate policy level
