COVID-19 hot takes thread, here we go... 1/ scaling up testing right now is the wrong move. We have community spread literally everywhere. Testing just gets people congregating more. The right thing to do now is social distancing. Protecting health workers. Not counting cases.

Disagree with much of this. Rapid testing has numerous benefits and was effectively used by China, at scale too. Testing lowers anxiety and creates clear incentives for isolation compliance for those who test positive. Reduces FLHW days away from work. Helps etiology studies. Etc

That’s one factor yes. We saw this with an actual health worker at Dartmouth who went to a party when advised not to. Two days later tested positive. China is def using testing for compliance reasons, and that’s even in a higher baseline compliant society.
