"Forest restoration" which is shoddy or greenwashing a serious concern. At same time, more research & support urgently needed for tropical agroforestry which best stores carbon and is profitable for smallholder farmers - or they will run cattle.

At moment, Bonn Challenge goals not close to being met in any way. Having natural Forest regeneration would be amazing but is not happening in this world and will not happen without huge intervention. Better solutions needed urgently.

At last someone saying the truth, these plantations are just awful, monospecifics, 0 diversity, poor habitats. Just look at NZ plantations, they are scary, native forests are mostly gone and the lack of habitats for species such as Kakapo is obvious... Same everywhere though.

Natural forests are not in a state of equilibrium, they absorb a lot of carbon. And the carbon in wood products only stays out of the atmosphere until it decays, paper, pulp, chipboard etc, *and all waste* is short-term.
