Easy to take cheap shots. Harder to give real solutions grounded in reality and backed by data/logic. What do you recommend? Locking everyone up? Where's the right risk cut-off? And how many people have not re-offended and now have a better chance of recovery?

Something Portugal, Netherlands tried this. SF is trying to replicate their success, but without, you know, doing the parts that work.https://twitter.com/stuz5000/status/1362549849682452481 …

Some data to think about. SF was doing better than it ever had, until the incentives not to deal and use drugs were removed. Policy has killed more than 2000 people.https://twitter.com/stuz5000/status/1404872498181672962 …

SF Footgun @stuz5000The real Bay Area unicorn.@GeorgeGascon's SF legacy-drastically cut dealing prosecution in his tenure. [2015] Prop 47: personal drug possession felony→misdemeanor. [2020-2021]@chesaboudin hasn't prosecuted one felony drug case. 720 dead in 2020#FentanyMassacre#SFFoorgun pic.twitter.com/rzkxxG4YI1Show this thread1 reply 2 retweets 6 likes -
I'm not following. Didn't proposition reduce the crime of illegal drug use (personal) from a felony to a misdemeanor? What does it have to do with dealing? And then dealing really has to do with the amounts, right? You can disagree with it but the idea is to go after big fish.

And how do we do a real test of efficacy if only half the plan is implemented? We still don't have safe injection sites. Criminalize use and you're criminalizing addicts. Criminalize small dealing and you waste time on commodity dealers.

Re: safe injection sites. They have been many studies. Any evidence that they reduced addiction? They’re locally contentious. What’s SF’s excuse excuse for ignoring that evidence that opioid outpatient treatment offered via outreach can be effective? Cheap. Scales.https://twitter.com/stuz5000/status/1400862824214106115 …

SF Footgun @stuz5000Replying to @MattHaneySF @TheMarinaTimesThe city could, should, but does not, provide the addiction treatments that are low effort, low cost and scalable, to outpatients via outreach. Once-monthly buprenorphine depot injections - nothing easier. $2 daily buprenorphine, there's nothing cheaper. https://twitter.com/stuz5000/status/1397270503853752322?s=20 …1 reply 0 retweets 3 likes -
I agree. Should experiment with it. Also agree that data is limited, though there have been little to no overdosed at safe injection sites and the ability to better provide people with addition counseling and other medical care.https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2018/09/07/645609248/whats-the-evidence-that-supervised-drug-injection-sites-save-lives …

Unless you happen to have to live near one or be impacted by them. I’m not opposed to these but mitigation has to be in place for affected communities or you will lose community support. For example in Kamloops BC crime has sky rocketed since the introduction of these facilities

Thx for the info. When did the spike in crime happen? Wondering if correlated or causal.
