Wow! Tried 's Cell Structure Segmenter today - started from scratch after never using Python or notebooks before Really nice segmentation right out of the box! 🤩 Looking forward to digging in and really customizing it!

Our huge Patch-seq effort is out on bioRxiv: . 1320 neurons in mouse motor cortex patched, sequenced, and mapped to a scRNA-seq atlas. 642 reconstructed morphologies! Our running joke was that it was a bit like catching Pokemons. (1/n)

Extremely excited about our paper using the Patch-seq method to describe the electrical and morphological properties of transcriptomic types in mouse visual cx. Out on biorxiv today! New things to see for Sst neurons!

Join my lab! In our Postdoctoral Training Program in Bioimage Analysis, you will help bring the deep learning revolution to biologists as we make new software. You need to be well-organized, w/ enthusiasm for (but not tons of experience in) image analysis

  8. Important to consider for patients with focal cortical dysplasia, microcephaly, lissencephaly (type 1 and type 2) - in addition to significant problems in brain wiring, does poor patterning/density of the cerebrovasculature pile on to the problems? IDK but I do think about it!

  9. What I do think their paper (indirectly) brings up is that it's possibly that many mouse mutants with corticogenesis defects (regardless of cause) have vascular defects - this has not been systematically studied, at least that I am aware of

  10. There is a significant literature on this, NONE mentioned by the authors - they zero in on Smoc1. It's possible this is involved but the reduction in upper layer neurons in Prdm16 mutants will reduce MANY neuronal-derived angiocrines that could cause the subtle vascular defects

  11. Neural stem cells, progenitors and their varied progeny make LOTS of secreted and membrane bound angiokines (WNTs, VEGFs, Shh, etc.) that help build the CNS vascular network, also includes NSC-expressed alphavb8 that processes TGFb1

  12. Interesting paper in on Prdm16 mutants and defects in cerebrovascular development - propose neurogenesis failure in Prdm16 mutants diminishes angiogenesis through loss of neural-derived Smoc1. However...

Hippocampal vascularization patterns vary between individuals. Perosa et al. show that a mixed hippocampal supply, as opposed to a single one, provides a hippocampal vascular reserve that protects against cognitive impairment.

02-02-2020 8-digit palindrome date - according to tweet this hasn't happened in 900 years, next one is 111 yrs away - kind of want to go to lab and make some solutions (something nice and stable!) so I can label them '02-02-2020 JAS' 😀

Summer '99...I was an undergrad in a lab , this was my copy cord to photocopy research papers in bound journals when I visited the stacks (who remembers stacks? anybody?)...stacks were a bit creepy to me, I am cool with the tech. advance of digital papers
