Agreed. You have to love it enough to be okay with not getting paid a dime for it until you break into the big time. If you're in it for the outcome and not the process, it'll be hard to stay motivated on the way.
Also important when people give this advice to consider survivorship bias. Just because we "made it" in some sense does not mean that most do, even with the same grind. It certainly maximises chances but it's important to not put all your eggs in that basket.

Absolutely. While I was doing a bunch of esports on the side I quit my cushy engineering job to work in a community pharmacy so I could get enough time off to travel. Back then there was less competition for casters but now there's more ways to get your content out there

My route might be different as a writer, but ideas on a good place to consolidate your work for show? I have author's links at the websites I write for, but a singular place to put it all wouldn't be so bad if you guys know of something.
