For real. I use the same mouse pad and just buy a new one every few months. They're like, 10 bucks.

You're supposed to just gently rub it with your hands and some MILD soap. Steel wool? No wonder. Buy a new one.

Needed a good scrubbing behind the ears, the dirty thing. Don't think I can replace it after all these years tho.
