Everyone is taking JRogan's comment as "waste of time" meaning "can't get you a career". That's not really the point. The argument is whether gaming is a better spend of your free time than other hobbies, like sports, reading, learning, socialising, etc.
AND how enthralling/time-consuming they are versus that reward. I think there are many positives to gaming, but if I hadn't "made it" then I would want a LOT of those hours back playing TF2 to do something more fulfilling.
Obviously there's more to this argument than just "do what makes you happy!" if you care about personal development over hedonism at all.
But can one "make it" without those hours?
idk, the emotional highs and lows of playing video games recreationally are some of my best memories, i haven't made it or made anything but I don't really regret a second of that time
