      The balancing around GOATs in 2019 absolutely ruined the community perception of "metas". There were AMAZING metas in the past that spanned multiple months that were not detrimental to the viewing experience. There were also AWESOME moments in GOATs, it just lasted too long.

      The common fan outlook that it's either: a) one week metas with hero pools or b) a meta that lasts the entire year just doesn't hold up historically since 2016. I fundamentally believe that balancing CAN achieve this happy medium.

      to play devil's advocate moth meta dive lasted for around a year previously before that it just had variation in the dps lineup while the supports/tanks stayed mostly the same

      I'd side with Avast. From just before the 2017 World Cup to the end of OWL Season 1 Stage 3. About 9 months. Stage 4 was the short-lived Grav-Dragon meta and Scatter Arrow's last ride, Playoffs was solo support, then GOATS finally hit T1 in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

      That's what I remember too. I remember that double rez made a terrible viewing experience and lasted way too long. No way it was just a month.

      Go check the vods. Double res Mercy was patched on January 30th 2018 and started being played in APAC Premier 2017 (but the winter break meant that was the only tournament apart from OWL in that time period). It's just an illusion.

          Double Rez Moth was the peak, but it being nerfed to single Rez didn't instantly change the meta. If I'm remembering correctly, Lucio initially returned early in Stage 2, but by the end of the stage the meta had defaulted back to Mercy-Zen Dive, where it remained in Stage 3
