One of the most oft-repeated but least thought about fan takes I see. So you wanna watch ranked? Ranked is the literal definition of players fucking winging it "on the fly", compared to OWL now where they have time to create team play. Preparation kills chaos, not creativity.https://twitter.com/SeventyCix/status/1220618129514147840 …

Seeing teams come up with solutions on the fly versus running a script will be interesting. Maybe a smart, creative team beats a skilled but static team when there’s less time to script your plays.

the thing that makes the Overwatch League so good to watch is seeing the team play and coordination that makes these teams so great. there are hundreds of mechanically gifted streamers you can watch playing ranked if that’s what you want to see, but that’s not what OWL is about

you know what's a real thing that would make teams adapt on the fly and challenge creativity? hero bans.

Especially because even in ranked, it gets closer to "groups of players" rather than full-fledged teams, even when/if they six-stack. The thought that goes behind OWL strategies just can't be compared ranked play, which feels a lot more reactive and impulsive.

on a side note: "preparation kills chaos, not creativity" is one hell of a quote, and I love it. I like how it applies to situations outside of OW too. I'm gonna start using it. (I swear I wont pull a Michael Scott)pic.twitter.com/hwc5RqIoi3

this seems.... disingenuous. obviously there's a difference between ranked play and play between consistent rosters of pro players, no matter how much scrim time they get. why do you think duos and trios(rip) in ranked are so strong. there is a balance.

No one is saying there isn't a difference, but rather it's not even close to ideal. There can be a range here that goes from organized pro play to solo queue's sheer lack of coordination, the goal is to get it as close as possible to the former / not compromise where unnecessary.

They might have time to create team play but the Meta last year was so overbearing it smothered creativity to the extent it's easy for us fans to want to smash a fucking wrecking ball through the game in the hope that what survives the wreckage will be good.
