Biggest disconnect between the devs and playerbase imo is that the devs are trying to make the game balanced, whereas the players want the game to feel fresh. They're not the same thing.

"Balance" is super difficult AND whether you succeed or not can leave the game feeling stale. The pros will always boil down to a few comps with a slight edge unless the maps or gamemodes are hugely forcing.

Most successful games throw new/changing shit at players constantly so their squirrel brains can't keep up. Even cynical moves to disrupt balance for the sake of change have made other top titles very fun for a short while.

Mass effect 3 Mp made Balance changes pretty much every Other week. If they fuxked up the Balance for a week They would change it back the next Patch and so on kept the meta always fresh

Reminds me of League over the past few years: rework global dragon gold into elemental drakes, changing Baron buff, adding jungle fruit, and now completely changing the map! Almost each change gets huge community pushback, but has lead to a healthy and interesting ecosystem!

I agree. I would much prefer an unbalanced game that gets frequent updates/hero reworks than one that is balanced. The balance will never be perfect. People will always play heroes that give them even the slightest edge leading to the same heroes being played in every game.

If the hero pool was larger, I think a rotating hero pool like they do with the maps every season would keep the meta constantly shifting. If you reworked/rebalanced the heroes out of rotation every competitive season would feel fresh. You could still play your faves in quickplay

A game like League doesn't have any more big changes than OW and it's the same map for 10 years. The fun comes from the champion interactions, they are different every game. That doesn't happen in Overwatch. My interaction as soldier rn is shooting a shield until my team loses.

One thing that nobody talks about and might be a "solution" is more out there map designs, such as a point on a high ground with such a long path to get to that heroes without mobility would be painful to play there

I've said this for a long time. That's why I think League seasons are so successful. Every season is memorable with its own changes and balance issues. I don't think league would have maintained its competitive playerbase for so long if their goal was absolute balance.
