Some people run a really tight budget. Also I have heard anecdotally that a large proportion of many Patreon accounts were in $1 donations.

Oh, they are. I also know a lot of people dislike giving YouTube a share of the money, but I personally have no problem whatsoever making sure the platform I am on is able to succeed and NOT disappear due to managerial incompetence.

I wouldn't be. Why would I pay $1 per creator for shorter ads when $10 gets me ad free across the entire website? They need different, worthwhile perks for that program or it'll always be worth less than YouTube Premium.

Some people only have $1-2 per month they can spare. It gives them a chance to help out the creators they love and still get something out of it.

What they need is a "gift" option. So users can gift a subscription to another user for a period of time.

Or just do youtube Red without the "free" Google music thing they were "giving" people as a way to justify the price. I mean really I doubt any-one looked at it and went "Oh yeh that's totally free they didn't just put the cost into the youtube Red subscription"

I have never even touched the YouTube Music stuff.
