    During a grad school interview the dept chair told me he wouldn't accept me bc my GRE scores were low. I've since earned a PhD, published, and gotten awards. Objectively, your test failed to predict that I would be a competent scientist.

    GRE scores, when reviewed holistically with all other admissions components, serve as the only truly objective measure in graduate school admissions and therefore remain a critical piece of the puzzle. Learn more:

    This paper explains why priors on parameters is not a good way of encoding the BULK of human knowledge, which is causal, not statistical. For a quick example, let us try to express our prior belief that mud does not cause rain. My prior is high

    I attended talk at CVPR and it was my favorite part at the conference. Highly recommend!

    Off to ICML'18 to present a tutorial on "Toward Theoretical Understanding of Deep Learning" Tuesday 1pm. Lecture slides and bibliography here.
