Abled people enjoy ignorant bliss in the form of “nobody would willingly discriminate against disabled people”, but it happens. Every. Single. Day. This is our lives. Why would you suggest that disabled people sign themselves up to be discriminated against ahead of time? 2/6

This is why: Whether it’s conscious or subconscious, you do not see disabled people as people. You would rather we not exist in society with other people. You’re “fine with us being disabled” (as though we had a choice) but you want that kept far away from you. 3/6

But the thing is, we’re not going to do that anymore. Disabled people have spent MILLENIA unable to exist, be it that we died from lack of technology to care for us, we were killed on purpose (still happening, but y’all call it “mercy killing” because ableds are weird) 4/6

Or we were hidden away in facilities like dirty secrets. But we will not do that anymore. We are not going to accommodate your ignorance. We are not going to sacrifice our lives for your bigoted, baseless discomfort. We are here. We deserve to be here. 5/6

Did some of those drivers lose their jobs? Yes. Does that suck? Of course! But you know what REALLY sucks? The fact that you seem to think these people are above THE LAW, or the fact that you value “leather seats” above the well-being of another human being. FOH. 6/6

If you're in the business of transporting people, it is your responsibility as the one providing the service to be equipped to transport disabled customers. If you can't do that, you shouldn't have that job. This isn't difficult.

She didn't need a wheelchair lift. Not all wheelchairs need one. One of my partners uses a wheelchair, and they just put it in our trunk when they get in a car. I can stow it, my husband can stow it, and both my partners can stow it despite all of us having physical issues.
