    A major misconception about bats is that they are a rodent like me but they aren’t a close relative at all! If all the bat species were grouped with all the rodent species we would make up nearly half of all mammal species!

    White-nose syndrome, a fatal infection caused by a fungus, arrived in Nova Scotia in 2012 and reduced our bat population by around 95%. Data shows the population is slowly rebounding.

    It’s Raccoons are so adaptable they have been able to thrive and expand their range in North America enormously! My favourite fact is that the raccoon family is closely related to the bear family!
